Tobacco Prevention Program

The Tobacco Prevention Program is a state funded program that works to create tobacco-free living, working and recreational areas in Calaveras County.

The program focuses on:

  • Counter pro-tobacco influences
  • Reduce exposure to secondhand smoke
  • Reduce youth access to tobacco
  • Promote quit services

Tobacco Quit Kits are available at no cost for youth and adults who are ready to quit tobacco use.

Who is Eligible for Program Services?

Community volunteer opportunities for youth and adults to participate in the promotion of tobacco free communities are open for the following:

  • Young Adult Tobacco Purchase Survey
  • Tobacco-free policies
  • Flavored Tobacco
  • ASAP (Alliance for Substance Abuse Prevention), a coalition of community members and local organizations to promote tobacco prevention

What are the Eligibility Criteria for Services?

There are no eligibility criteria for volunteers to participate in the program.

Quit Kits are available at Public Health's main office for any resident who is interested in quitting tobacco use.

When are the Services Available & Cost?

Quit Kits are available by mail or may be picked up at Calaveras County Public Health or call the California Smokers' Helpline for free telephone counseling, self-help materials and online help. 

Tobacco Education materials and information on tobacco laws in California are available at no cost to community members and organizations.

Community Action

ASAP (Alliance for Substance Abuse Prevention)

"Local people solve local problems best."

The coalition was formed through the efforts of the Tobacco Prevention Program and Substance Abuse Prevention. Partnerships were formed with community organizations and residents to address the concerns of tobacco use and exposure and youth substance use and abuse. Meetings are held every month and are open to the community. Those interested in becoming a member or attending meetings may contact Calaveras County Public Health at (209) 754-6460.
